Bumblebee Cottage is superbly situated next to Aysgarth Falls. Aysgarth is an extremely popular Yorkshire Dales village with a wealth of local amenities. The property is also set behind St Andrews Medieval Church.
The three stepped waterfalls at Aysgarth have been a tourist attraction for well over 200 years. Alongside the falls there are several easy paths winding through the woodland area, and in spring the wood is full of wood anemones and primroses. You may even be lucky enough to see roe deer darting away into the shadows.
There is a National Park Centre, café and car park at Aysgarth Falls so it easy to visit. A top tip is to remember that the waterfalls are at their most dramatic after heavy rain.
The nearest stations to Aysgarth are War Memorial and Palmer Flatt Hotel. here is a regular bus service between Leyburn and Hawes which provides access to the village of Aysgarth. The National Park Centre and Falls are a 10 minute walk away.
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
Free parking outside or close to the cottage is usually available.
The location was great.
There was no hot water at all. Unable to have a shower. Contacted Host And Stay who contacted the owner. They said they knew there was a problem with the boiler and were awaiting a part before it could be fixed. We only stayed for the weekend and not having hot water was bad enough for us. Imagine staying for a week without hot water. And the owner knew there would be no hot water before we arrived.
There was also rubbish ( a child’s cup and sweet wrappers) under one of the beds.
location is excellent, right opposite Aysgarth falls.
The bedrooms were a little small but no problem, very cosy.
location was ideal. heating excellent, bathroom facilities good. TV
the lack of instructions for the cooker. We had to clean the cooker. a bit tired and in need of a redecorate. felt more like a student lodgings in need of TLC
strong damp musty smell down stairs
bit tired looking, could do with some tlc, particularly bathroom and general painting.
A well maintained property in a great location that had pretty much everything we needed. Very comfortable and peaceful.
No outdoor space for the dog. There also isn’t a proper table to eat from, just a bar-type setup in the kitchen.
there was a missing floor board in one bedroom. very dangerous!! we contacted the host but no response.
The guest bedroom had a floor board missing underneath the carpet it is very dangerous and I hurt my back when I un knowingly stepped on to it which you couldn’t see as it’s underneath the fitted carpet, also there was no normal tv only a bt box , tv upstairs no signal at all.
Good value and we managed to park 2 cars outside
There are 2 double beds but they are small, and we didn't sleep well in the second bedroom
amazing time, lovely accommodation! perfect location! really reallly pleased! thank you again.
Property wasn’t very clean, and unfortunately the technology was very poor. television upstairs didn’t work at all, and television downstairs had limited channels - could only watch catch up tv.
also disappointing could not use fire
Amazing location, idyllic setting, easy to access and get away from the crowds
location is great, lovely cottage
no toilet role, oven gloves or logs for the wood burner on arrival.
Given the rural location it was then a 30 mins round trip to get the bare essentials needed.
The location of the property was lovely. Really peaceful and relaxing.
It’s such a shame because the area and cottage itself is lovely but unfortunately, on arrival, we were quite upset and disappointed.
When we arrived there was no welcome toilet roll, only empty rolls in the cupboard and not even a welcome tea bag. Even though the property accepts dogs, the floor and carpet had a lot of dog hairs. The fire place wasn’t clean at all, there was an empty bag which had previously had fire wood in it and the area around hadn’t been cleaned before we had arrived. We also arrived to numerous letters on the floor, which isn’t the worst thing but not ideal for first impressions. I did email the company and they were compassionate but, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
The location was beautiful, directly across from the waterfall. The cottage was comfortable, warm and well equipped.
The hot water did not last long. After only one shower the water ran cold. It seemed like the boost option on the tank was not working, or the timer was not set long enough. Some of the information sent regarding the property was incorrect. For example, it stated there was a coffee machine when there wasn't.
The location was excellent, right next to the falls, village and a lovely tea room. Lots of lovely sites to visit a short drive or walk away inc, using Castle Bolton, Bainbridge, West Burton and Hawes.
It could have been cleaner.
Beautiful little cottage at a STUNNING location! Loved it
Nothing not to like, it was beautiful
location was spot on
not cleaned on arrival no tv reception upstairs to not working beds not changed dirty towels in the bath no logs rubbish in the kitchen dirty worktop’s
Location was excellent.
There were dishes in the dish washer when we arrived. No soap and about a quarter of a roll of toilet roll. There were no bin bags or wipes.
The instructions stated that we should wipe all of the services before leaving - using the provided cleaning wipes - there were none.
I just got the impression that the cottage hadn't been serviced since the last occupants left.
The cottage was really clean and comfortable. Perfect location, close by the Falls.
Ran out of hot water too easily. Old cistern needs updating. Front door lets in a draft and doesn’t close properly, needs changing.
the cottage was lovely, clean and in a great location
parking outside a real bonus
TV the main tv has very limited channels
the bedroom tv doesn’t work.
fantastic location, property beautiful &well maintained ,very cosy & well equipped, excellent supply of heating & hot water
everything to our liking
fantastic location! lovely and warm cottage, had all the mod cons for a comfortable stay.
the only issue we found was we couldn’t get any channels on the tv in the bedroom, not a huge issue, just for us as a young family with a 1 year old, the easiest way for us to settle her when we co sleep is with something on the tv in bed.
lovely location, nice and cosy, easy access to walks and falls
a few small issues with broken equipment, and finding rubbish under binbag in bin, emailed to make them aware
A great stay in the Yorkshire Dales! A really cosy cottage with modern comforts, and on the doorstep of some fantastic walks!
Perfect quiet place with lots of nice walks
Lovely location with waterfalls right on your door step.
Attention is needed to the property, see previous reviews as those issues were still present for our visit.
We enjoyed our time in Aysgarth. The cottage is in a unique location next to the falls and good for local walks. We walked up to the local pub on Saturday evening for a meal and that was excellent. The footpath was dark so remember torches in the winter.
Some maintenance issues around the cottage needing attended to. A leaking toilet and door handles that come away in your hand being the main points. Disappointing these points hadn’t been addressed as I doubt they have just happened. I’ve notified the owner.
We were hoping to use the log burner on our first evening. Some logs had been left but both the gas lighters were empty and we failed to get it lit. Bought some matches the next day.
TV channels seemed to limited but we had a firestick and the internet was good so that wasn’t an issue for us.
Nice cottage in a beautiful location. Worth a visit.
Very lovely cottage in great location by Asygarth falls. Well equipped kitchen, snuggly log fire and comfy beds. No phone signal at all though, which is a good thing, but just be prepared.
Fantastic location, perfect for Aysgarth Falls and surrounding areas! Lovely cosy cottage!
Lovely location, good facilities. Easy to access on arrival day and good instructions for checking out
It would have been useful to have instructions on how to use the appliances. Oven was in french and we could not work out how to use the hob at all TV in the bedroom did not work and there is a big crack in the bedroom window which needs sorting.
Great location for the waterfalls.
Convenient location for Aysgarth Falls and the cafe. Had all the right kit in the house and comfortable enough.
Strong smell of dogs on the furniture, cost was over the top for the size, not all windows worked.
The location was great, next to a lovely tea room and the waterfall. The staff were helpful retrieving a taxi quote as there is no phone service at the property.
There were lots of broken door handles/cupboard door upstairs hanging off the hinges and the ironing board foam and cover had come apart and meant you couldn’t use the iron properly - it needs to be glued back together or replaced. Individually these things would be fine however they are small things which are easy to fix and as there are so many of them, it isn’t worth the value.
Upon arrival, the bin outside the front door was overflowing. We received an email advising us to dispose of our rubbish in this bin before departure and when I responded to advise of the overflowing bin, this part of the email was ignored therefore we had to leave our rubbish in the property on departure.
As many reviews have stated, this property is in need of some maintenance. 2 door handles are falling off, wallpaper throughout is peeling off, lots of marks on the walls, the kitchen ceiling has a big crack through and when the bath was emptying, it dripped through the ceiling meaning we had to put pans out to catch it. Messaged the company at 10pm Friday night stating the ceiling was leaking and they got back to me at 2.50pm the next day. Not ideal. As other reviews have said, the hot water runs out quickly. In order to have a bath, had to fill it with kettles as it had run out. Bedrooms are VERY small - can only just shimmy past the end of the bed to get round. Parking says 1-2 cars. Absolutely not for 2 cars. 1 is fine but not if you have a big vehicle. Love that the property is dog friendly, HOWEVER, there is a very strong dog smell downstairs and lots of dog hairs around. Not great at all! Usually see the positive in everywhere I stay, but unfortunately we wouldn’t recommend this property other than the good location.
Perfect location simply beautiful.
The cottage was absolutely beautiful, stunning Infact… the only thing was the smell of dog was so so over powering… some plug ins would be perfect as I know it’s pet friendly.
It is literally so close to aysgarth falls you can hear them from the bedroom. There is a little tea shop right outside the door. There are lots of little trips out within 20/30 minutes or less.
It’s modern, warm, comfortable and squeaky clean. We had a really lovely stay here.
The hot water was set for a very short time period so only two of us could take a shower, it took us a while to figure out how to heat it up in the mornings but that was a tiny gripe in a wonderful stay and didn’t take away from it at all.
The property was very clean and had everything we needed it felt so homely and was just lovely !
The location was fantastic, the value for money is on another level we will definitely be going back.
There isn’t a bad thing about this property.
Ease of travelling distance to explore the dales
The sound of the falls , wonderful
Lovely tearoom nearby
Needs TLC ..property needs a fresh paint
Basically needs some DIY completing around the property and upholstery cleaning
Needs a more personal touch
Location was brilliant
A lot of broken items. Most door handles were broken and loose, the dishwasher wouldn’t turn on, windows that won’t open or windows that won’t stay open as they’re broken, lights not working, only one toilet roll for a 5 day break (may not sound important but when the nearest open shop was 35 minutes away that is a total wasted trip). Worst of all the hot water did not work for our last 3 days. Reported it to the letting agency and nobody came out to fix it. Luxury stay is not a word I would use!
Loved the location
TV reception and program choice not great.
Although weather was good , still needed heating on and more logs could have been supplied for wood burner.
Location is great, nice to be so close to the waterfall and very handy having a cafe next door. Wi-fi and heating are good.
Being so close to the waterfall means a very noisy night. Make sure you bring your ear plugs!
Every channel except BBC had a bad connection. Interior is a bit shabby, marks on walls, paper peeling. Had plenty of time to do up during lockdown. You are paying for the location as the house is not up to the standard you would expect for that price. Parking is awkward but do-able, only for one car however.
Great location right on the falls. Perfect base to explore the Yorkshire dales.
It was very well equipped and well decorated .
Tv reception on and off, but not the end of the world. So a DVD player may be good.
Liked how close it was to the falls, was close enough to other towns to be able to visit them too. The Teashop next to the property was useful too! The furnishings were lovely and it was very cosy. Had an overall really lovely holiday! Wifi was brilliant, better than mine at home.
Instructions on how to use the heaters, hob and oven would have been appreciated as we had to Google how to use the hob!
The shower and bed was a little too small for my partner (who is 6ft). Bedrooms were small but expected in a cute cottage!
The location was excellent, the cottage was warm and cosy, and had all the facilities that were needed. A pity the Aysgarth falls hotel wasn't open for meals.
No instructions for the oven and hob. Could only get the oven on at one temperature, which was difficult as we were self catering as no where was open to get meals.
Heater in kitchen broken. Moving around bed difficult due to space.
Lovely location, beautiful scenery, cosy cottage, nice and modern.
Cosy, picturesque location
Lovely little cottage
Could get the tele working to watch match of the day
The bt thing wasn’t working
Location is good although the parking space is quite small.
Really lovely cottage and a great stay at bumblebee. Fantastic location and great amenities. There had been a mix up and the cottage hadn’t been cleaned but it was rectified and the cleaners came quickly despite it being a Sunday. Would definitely stay again
Lovely cottage in a perfect location for the falls and other walks. Would recommend.
Overall the cottage is a fantastic location, right next to the falls and has plenty of walks, pubs and things to see/do. I would definitely recommend this property to couples/families or a small group of friends. Lovely kitchen and log burning fire in the living room along with a very modern bathroom.
There are only a few niggles, the first would be the parking outside the property. It's a little tight so for those in a SUV, you might struggle to get parked. The second thing is hot water, we ran out after around 10 minutes. We then waited an hour and managed to have another quick shower, not the end of the world but for a family of 4 all wanting to shower before going out, it may be an issue.
Perfect position, comfortable and great to come home to. The cottage is well equipped, cosy and clean but also very relaxed.
A loose-hanging sheet of wall paper needs fixing near the front door - though this in no way affected our enjoyment of the cottage.
First time visiting the dales with my partner and little puppy, great location, super cosy cottage. Everything you need inside. Fab value for money would definitely recommend to family and friends.
A comfortable property in a good location.
Lovely cottage in great location just opposite the upper falls, within walking distance to other 2 falls. 2 pubs in close distance, but busy road so need to drive. Car parking space outside the property door to fit 2 small cars/one bigger (we squeezed a golf and a Volvo), backs onto a busy minor road leading to the falls. Beautifully furnished, clean and bright. Hot water ran out after 2 showers and didn’t reheat for 24 hours which was really the only fault. Would recommend.
A lovely cottage nestled in a perfect spot to enjoy the falls. Great communication from the start and everything you might need is there for an enjoyable stay and great nights sleep!
Not dog or child friendly being so close to a main road, but nice enough for a couple.
Nicely done up cottage and good location in Aysgarth
I can not fault our stay
the cooker was very confusing and took us a while to work it, no instructions
Location, beds, facilities were all great. Nice and cosy and heating worked fine. Shower was good as well
No working frying pan, too much light in the bedroom
The cottage was located in a good area allowing access to lots of tourist attractions.
The location of this cottage is perfect. Really good for walks & quite central to other little villages. Nice furniture & modern design. Beds were comfy.
Comfortable, modern, clean and well equipped. Lovely scenery and location for walking. Cosy when the weather's not so good.
Minor issues with cooker and heating but soon sorted.
Lovely cottage in a great location right next to Aysgarth Falls - falling asleep to the sound of the falls was really soothing.
The space was modern and stylish, especially the kitchen, and the entire cottage was deceptively spacious. It was clean, comfortable, and the radiators were on when we arrived which was great coming in from the cold.
The only small criticism I would have is that a few of the door handles were a little loose, but all in all it was a really lovely stay.
Beautiful location and pub up the road served the best food!!
Bedrooms on the small side..
Great location and nicely renovated cottage. Fuel for the log burner would have been nice and the cleaning could be a bit better. No spare loo roll!
This is a very sweet cottage in a stunning location with excellent access to the local towns of Leyburn and Hawes and many other pretty villages. The cottage is right opposite Aysgarth falls which are stunning - be prepared for the sound!
Close by are the mill, a couple of cafes and a very hospitable pub. The cottage is small but tastefully furnished throughout. There is a small car parking area to the front- for larger cars there’s a pay and display further up the hill past the church. We really enjoyed our time here
The cottage is an attractive and comfortable little dwelling and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay there. Furthermore, it is ideally placed for a quiet getaway with scope for many pleasant and varied walks and one or two good pubs nearby. The only issues we came across were minor ones and could easily be corrected. The door to one of the bedrooms appears to have a faulty hinge and the handle on the inside of the door was loose giving rise to the potential for being locked in the room. The hose readily detached itself from the vacuum cleaner.
The other issues only really concerned the itinerary rather than the property itself. For instance, it was stated that there wasn’t a washing machine but one was present. We decided not to pack dishwasher tablets as there was no mention of a dishwasher in the itinerary but regretted the decision on finding, what appeared to be, an excellent machine.
All they being said, and as mentioned, these we quite minor and did not prevent us from enjoying our stay in this excellent accommodation in lovely surroundings. We would certainly consider staying there again and would recommend it, especially for couples seeking a quiet break.
The cottage was very aesthetically pleasing and it's location to the falls was perfect. However, for the money paid, we felt that we could have been provided with some basic amenities, especially with the rural location. On arrival the bathroom soap was empty, and 3 towels were stained. The bathroom was beautiful, however the tiles were really slippy and there were no shower mats for safety. I think it would be a kind gesture to provide clients with some basic toiletries, which would definitely boost the value of the listing. Overall, a helpful team, and a beautiful cottage.
Took the family on the Polar Express Christmas train and stayed and the Bumblebee cottage for two nights. Location was perfect just over the road from Aysgarth falls. Cottage was very clean, good communication and will definitely be staying again at this property or one of the other they have in North Yorkshire
Great location next to the falls. The sound of it is loud enough to lull you to sleep on a night.
Very clean and well kept.
Perfect for a summer break.
Well equipped with cooking pots and pans, every thing you will need.
Hot water is limited to timer. When it's gone it's gone.
Cottage was very cold on arrival but after switching the electric radiators on it warmed up and was then cosy.
My wife and I have stayed in many cottages around the UK and find, for us, it's the ideal holiday. Usually far from the madding crowd, deep in the countryside away from the madness. This cottage looked ideal. We know the area well and looked forward to a couple of nights away.
In the photo's online, the cottage looks ideal and to be fair, it is but i feel the management of the property has let it down. I found door handles loose and falling off, the TV was ready to drop off the wall, the cottage was cold and unwelcoming when we arrived on a cold and blustery November afternoon, no welcome pack and no starter pack for the log fire.
I payed a lot of money to stay here for two nights and I'm sorry but I expected just a bit more in the way of a warm welcome and a well maintained cottage.
The area itself is beautiful, well looked after and a joy to walk around. Come on Home Away, I know you have a business to run but I feel you could have done a lot better, at this cottage definitely
Lovely place, great location.
Would definitely stay again
Brilliant location right next to the falls, and all the local walks. Pub is a short trip up the hill and has a wonderful atmosphere and top notch food. Very close to all major attractions in the North Yorkshire area. The kitchen is fully stocked, newly renovated and the cottage is very cosy for cold nights in. Would stay again and highly recommend for 2 couples or a family visit.
Comfortable stay in a lovely location.
Excellent location, with a great little cafe situated next door. Cottage is modern with a rustic feel. Master bed extremely comfortable. Loved the living room and how cosy it felt on an evening. We would reccomend to anyone and will be returning.
Couple of things which didnt ruin our stay but worth mentioning...when we arrived, someone had used the toilet and had not flushed. My husband used the disinfectant in the cupboard to clean the toilet again. One of the towels had a large brown stain on it. Could do with a mat at the front door to wipe feet after a walk
The tea and coffee was a nice touch
The 10am checkout time
Fantastic location right opposite Aysgarth falls.
No oven gloves or cutlery tray in dishwasher, bathroom door handle hanging off, small bedrooms you can just about get past the end of the bed, the tv in the bedroom has a very poor signal so you can only watch BBC channels, no dining table so you have to sit on the stools in the kitchen and stare at the walls while eating, no trays if you wanted to eat dinner on your lap in front of the tv.
All of it...cottage location and surrounding areas .
A quirky little cottage situated right across from Aysgarth Falls (certainly takes a bit getting used to falling asleep to the water noise!) Well equipped with everything you may need and very comfy.
